  1. Joel says:

    Dude. You’re obsessed with corgis.

  2. Mark Matis says:

Actually, I’m merely trying to help you remember that, for all his quirks and foibles, Laddie is merely being a Corgi…

There’s little danger he’ll let me forget that soon.

In fact Sunday he briefly became Angry Boi and got his ear boxed. Landlady was coming over for coffee which meant I needed to make the bed before Torso Boy was through using it. I shoved him off; he barked at me. I pushed him toward his own bed; he completely forgot himself, snarled and bit me. I think it was just a snap that went wrong, he didn’t make much contact but I’ve spent over 12 years with bigger more violence-prone dogs and my reaction to that sort of thing is pretty much hardwired by now. He got an immediate serious swat that made him yelp and cringe. Felt kind of bad about it though he was completely at fault, and I didn’t do the whole routine of making him roll over and expose his throat which I would have if it had been LB.

He’s got kind of a mean streak when he doesn’t get his way, but that’s the first time since he arrived in August that I’ve needed to remind him who’s the biggest and meanest dog in the house.

And you have to do it immediately, the first time it happens.

People forget an Alpha canine in a pack will do the same to subordinate pack members as a hard swat or bite if he/she pisses off or challenges the Alpha. When people tell me I shouldn’t do that to my dog I tell them to fluck off and mind their own business. I have a well behaved dog because I do not allow bad behaviors.
