Ooooh, I hate doing this…

Eye doctor appointment in the big town about 50 miles away. Probably the first of many.

I’ve really grown to hate leaving the Gulch.

About Joel

You shouldn't ask these questions of a paranoid recluse, you know.

Joel, consider this… Isn’t going into town better than trying to learn how to read and write braille.

  2. Joel says:

Don’t know for sure, I haven’t tried that second thing.

And it appears I won’t have to for a while. The exam went better than expected: The perceptible dimming of my eyesight in the past year is caused by something they can fix, apparently a common side effect of lens replacement not considered particularly serious (by anyone not frightened by it for the past couple of months.)

  3. Mike says:

    Joel, that’s great news.

  4. Should we be hitting the tip jar for whatever is coming next?? Just say the word!

  5. Joel says:

I don’t know what’s coming next, and I’m not going back for two months. Also (sigh) Medicare will be picking up a good chunk of whatever it is. So while I can’t say there won’t be another eye surgery bleg in the future, it’s too early to call one now.

    But thanks. 🙂

    Joel,

It sounds like the fix to your vision is a very common procedure for folks that have had Cataract surgery. I have had it done. All they do is fire a laser into your eye and blow a hole in the film that is restricting your vision. It will take perhaps five or ten minutes. The only thing you will feel is what feels like a slight puff of air when they fire the laser. Your vision will be clear & bright again as soon as they complete the procedure.

    Joel:

What Biba said. BTDT. Piece ah cake.

Although “All they do is fire a laser into your eye” and “blow a hole” might not be the most reassuring juxtaposition of phrases. It’s an ineresting experience. Bright but not painful.

Laser spot-welding to address retinal detachment, OTOH, is not someting you wanna do just to experience it. Nope, nope, nope.
