Nice warm day today. Temp topped out around sixty in the shade. Water’s still not dripping, so that’s bad, but I figured I’d use this balmy interlude to fire up M’s tractor and sort out J&H’s manure pile.
Poor thing sits all winter long, and I’m always pleasantly surprised when it pops right to life. Which is what it did this afternoon. Ran it back and forth for about an hour, cleaning up the place where I pile the fresh stuff, scooped up a bucket-load for M, and headed out.
Went to pick up the boys and found a white SUV hanging out near Landlady’s place. Chasing away tourists is one of my little joys. I pulled up behind the vehicle and went in search of its driver. Turned out to be this old guy, who wanted to know where all the standing water was. “There’s elk sign all through here! Never seen nothin’ like it!”
Yes, and he’s welcome to sweet-talk as many as he likes into the back of his truck and take them home. But not on Landlady’s place. He was very excited about the prospects implied by “all these elk!” Gentle reminders that “all this is private property, and some of the residents don’t take too kindly to…” finally sank in. Maybe the guy with the big dogs and the gun was trying to be polite about asking him to go away?
Got back home, and I was doing yard chores when neighbor L called. “Hey, your glasses finally showed up!” So now I’m off to see if that’ll actually improve my vision a little. Since the glaucoma thing started, I’d almost forgotten that the original intent was to get new specs so I could see better.
