They say that Louis XIV had the inscription Ultima Ratio Regum cast into all the cannon of the French Army. It means “The Ultimate Argument of Kings,” and that always struck me as one of the most honest and up-front things any ruler or would-be ruler ever said. “We can dress it up prettier than this, but when it comes down to the unvarnished truth this is what it’s about: You’ll do as I say or I’ll send my goons to kill you.”
I thought about that for a long time. If there’s an ultimate argument, it seems only logical that there must be an ultimate answer. For years I thought the ultimate answer must be the bullets in my rifle, but it never seemed quite right. I’ve got bullets – he’s got frigging Cannon Balls. I mean, if there were three hundred million rifles throwing bullets at him, then maybe. But we all know that’s not going to happen. So if there’s an ultimate answer to his ultimate argument, it sure as hell ain’t bullets.
It finally came to me – and that’s when I abandoned the city and most of my stuff, and gave all that was behind me a good stiff Randian Shrug.
The ultimate answer to kings is not a bullet, but a belly laugh.

I wonder if anyone ever informed Mr. Biden after that interview that firing random gun shots into the darkness is not only dangerous (see 4 rules of safety) but in many areas also highly illegal.
Of course when I see clips like that, I’m also dismayed at the number of people who hand shotguns to people who are clearly unprepared for the kickback. That’s dangerous too.
Legalities only matter if you’re not the Vice President (or his wife).
Well I for one am using this as an excuse to go buy a nice coach gun. How often do you get to tell your wife “The Veep says to go buy a new shot gun”? Mmm…a new gun…. One of the Russian ones in stainless. It will accent my evil black rifles nicely.
Unless there is a planned event, we don’t have range officers at our club. So, it was fortunate that I came when I did. A young couple was already there, and I watched the man try to convince the lady to shoot a rifle that was clearly too large for her. She was obviously untrained besides and neither of them had any ear or eye protection. As the club CRSO and a certified instructor, I took it on myself to intervene.
It was clear to me that the young man was all set to have fun at the lady’s expense. Just glad that the girl listened to me, and understood the problems she would have if she attempted to shoot the rifle, especially without ear protection. She turned on that fella and gave him absolute hell and they left immediately. Sadly, she may never be willing to learn to shoot now. What a darn shame.
So, you see, some idiots don’t even need stupid ideas from politicians…
I have also had opportunity to stop people from doing what these ladies were videoed doing. While I certainly don’t regret that, I have to admit it’s still funny to watch from the safe distance of Youtube.

I’ve got sensitive pressure points on my body, right where that gun is hitting hers, mine hurt like hell when they get hit, but she only complains about her hand.

I know Joel. 🙂 I just can’t help but remember when my first husband did pretty much the same thing to me when I was young and dumb. I contemplated serious revenge… and gave it up as a poor choice. But I did enjoy thinking about it. 🙂
