“We don’t have a record of your having given to me”

The commentator fills that last part of the video with a plug for his website, where you can go and … I dunno, sign a petition or something. That’ll get money out of politics, fer shur.

He’s quite right, though, that the real tragedy of this recording isn’t its existence but the ubiquity of the practice it demonstrates. Legislation is about raising money, and has been since I don’t know when. Maybe it has always been. But the legislators have become so consumed with raising money for their party contributions, their own perpetual campaigns, and redecorating their mistresses’ apartments that they seem to have failed to notice the administrative branch doing all their legislating for them.

Grammar Nazi LB has pointed out to me that the above may the longest sentence in TUAK history. Be that as it may: If America decides to adopt the Benevolent Dictator model of government, as it seems to be doing, maybe one benefit would be that we can discard the houses of congress as the expensive but useless luxury they have become.

Re:”Maybe it has always been”;No I don’t think so.I don’t think that the first few administratons (you know, the guys who actually fought in the revolution)were in it for the money. They actually had some principles.I’m not sure how long after them,it started to go wrong, but I’m always saying one way to fix things(not all things, but some) is term limits. If they weren’t always campaigning for re-election,maybe they’d get some work done.
And another thing(for which I expect to be castigated by Tam for being a racist, misogynistic, moron) is it a coincidence that she’s a progressive- black-Democrat-woman?

Forwarded from Mama Liberty, who’s having trouble commenting for some reason:

BillF- if you read the history of America, from the very beginning…
especially paying attention to the details of the Revolutionary Army and
the various bodies of legislators in the colonies then… the thing
that will stand out for you is that they all relied on THEFT to finance
their various endeavors. The “Continental Congress” indulged in all
kinds of theft, coercion and issued fiat “money” – which many of them
re-purchased later for pennies on the dollar, and then compensated
themselves from the “public” treasury – more stolen goods. Look up the
Whiskey Rebellion, and other such tax campaigns by the very first
    “president” and his cronies.

Look at “Hologram of Liberty” for a good over view.

No, when I read that any bunch of legislators has been “unproductive,”
or indulged in gridlock, I rejoice… just a tiny shred of liberty saved
    then.
