Homage or rip-off?

Oleg Volk reports that the following bit of extraordinary grafitti appeared earlier this year…

And while it’s a beautiful piece of art in itself, its inspiration seems to be rather undeniable…

And given that the apparent artist signed it but didn’t acknowledge the source, I’m calling rip-off. Which is a shame, because the street art is frickin’ magnificent.

All of which leads me perilously close to a topic I’ve sworn never to discuss here.

There are so many 1:1 correspondences between the original work and the street art that I suspect this is a photoshopped picture, not a real re-creation.

It’s wheat paste. He just printed it out and put his name on it. http://reizen814.tumblr.com/ The only problem I have with this is that he put his own name on it. It’s right up there with taking credit for a van Gogh because you printed it on a t-shirt.

Yeah, that’s my objection as well. As to the process, I don’t have a clue.
