Scary Manifesto that keeps getting pushed down on the sidebar by filthy capitalism!
They say that Louis XIV had the inscription Ultima Ratio Regum cast into all the cannon of the French Army. It means “The Ultimate Argument of Kings,” and that always struck me as one of the most honest and up-front things any ruler or would-be ruler ever said. “We can dress it up prettier than this, but when it comes down to the unvarnished truth this is what it’s about: You’ll do as I say or I’ll send my goons to kill you.”
I thought about that for a long time. If there’s an ultimate argument, it seems only logical that there must be an ultimate answer. For years I thought the ultimate answer must be the bullets in my rifle, but it never seemed quite right. I’ve got bullets – he’s got frigging Cannon Balls. I mean, if there were three hundred million rifles throwing bullets at him, then maybe. But we all know that’s not going to happen. So if there’s an ultimate answer to his ultimate argument, it sure as hell ain’t bullets.
It finally came to me – and that’s when I abandoned the city and most of my stuff, and gave all that was behind me a good stiff Randian Shrug.
The ultimate answer to kings is not a bullet, but a belly laugh.

Like I said elsewhere…I’m going to be making lots of orders, delivered straight to my local skeet range.
After all, what good is Prime Membership otherwise, if you can’t have any fun?
I don’t know… looks cool to me. I’d never use the service myself because it’s going to be far, far too expensive and I’m too scotch… but it would be fun to watch. Why do you find it “creepy” Joel?
And czechsix… I suspect your way would get VERY expensive in a big hurry. 🙂
Because Amazon will do some whiz-bang Google thing where you don’t have to give them your address or even have one – they already know where you are. Not just where you live, you understand. Where you are. Right now.
I just know they will. And then they’ll demonstrate it, and they’ll think it’s cool. And it will creep me out even further than they already do.
ML….pricey in so many ways!
But the entertainment value would be obscene. OK, I’m off to build the tribarrel BB gun, and mount it in a cloned CIWS pod.
bbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrppppppppppppppppppppp
But Joel, all you have to do to avoid all that is just not order from Amazon… or not opt for drone delivery. 🙂 I don’t think this will go anywhere soon anyway. Think of the liability if one of those things hit someone or whatever. Technology is wonderful, but as Heinlein said, you can’t railroad until it is time to railroad…
But it is fun to speculate sometimes. I WANT MY FLYING CAR~!!! LOL
These are the days… Miracle and Wonder – y’know.
