You may have a dog that likes to kill rabbits. But have you ever had a dog that could kill rabbits while he was cabled up?
Granted that it takes an especially stupid brand of rabbit. But they don’t come in “smart.”

Scary Manifesto that keeps getting pushed down on the sidebar by filthy capitalism!
They say that Louis XIV had the inscription Ultima Ratio Regum cast into all the cannon of the French Army. It means “The Ultimate Argument of Kings,” and that always struck me as one of the most honest and up-front things any ruler or would-be ruler ever said. “We can dress it up prettier than this, but when it comes down to the unvarnished truth this is what it’s about: You’ll do as I say or I’ll send my goons to kill you.”
I thought about that for a long time. If there’s an ultimate argument, it seems only logical that there must be an ultimate answer. For years I thought the ultimate answer must be the bullets in my rifle, but it never seemed quite right. I’ve got bullets – he’s got frigging Cannon Balls. I mean, if there were three hundred million rifles throwing bullets at him, then maybe. But we all know that’s not going to happen. So if there’s an ultimate answer to his ultimate argument, it sure as hell ain’t bullets.
It finally came to me – and that’s when I abandoned the city and most of my stuff, and gave all that was behind me a good stiff Randian Shrug.
The ultimate answer to kings is not a bullet, but a belly laugh.

Nope, rabbits are not smart. Considering how fast they breed, I’m exceedingly grateful that their natural place in the scheme of things is as food for smarter beasts. My old Rascal dog once watched patiently as a fat young rabbit climbed through the chain link fence into the yard… then snapped it up with little effort. The only problem I had with that is the rabbits here have some kind of worm that regular dog wormer doesn’t touch. Cost me $25. twice (two separate rabbits) to get the right medicine from the vet. With all the dogs out here, one would think it should come in 100 capsule containers at the feed store…
Laddie has yet to catch one, but it’s just a matter of time. They WILL come into the yard here. sigh
And he looks so innocent, too. The dog, not the rabbit. I’m sure the rabbit looks dead although he would look better with some carrots and potatoes and gravy ‘n biscuits. Now I’m hungry again.
There’s a mnemonic about huntin’ rabbits only in months with an r in ’em due to (presumably) ML’s worms. Anybody know for sure the reason? Not that ML has worms. I’m gonna start drinking now.
Not worms, rabbit fever. Can be fatal if not treated.

I had a Samoan/doberman mix who dug a depression into the ground at the end of his tether. He would then ignore the neighboring squirrels until they were sitting in it screeching at him. They then became his chew toys.
Had rabbits that would sit just out of reach of our dog on his chain. Drove half mad. Dad got tired of it and added 6ft to his chain one day. Rabbits piled up that day.
