Adventures in Fantasyland

Reading this Forbes piece filled with the usual viewing-with-alarm of Obama’s executive-power brand of governance, I came upon this hilarious chestnut:

Following the 2014 elections the Senate, which will then be Republican-controlled, can hold serious hearings on what this White House has been doing and can slash the budgets of recalcitrant departments and agencies (the GOP will also increase its majority in the House).

The election losses the Democrats will suffer will chasten a good part of the party, and many will work with Republicans to punish these breaches of trust by the White House. After all, wise Democrats will know that Republicans may well win the presidency in 2016, and they won’t want the new Chief Executive bending the rule of law the way President Obama has done out of habit.

Ignore the electoral predictions, which may or may not come true. Voters swing left and right as predictably, and as pointlessly, as a Focault pendulum. But how far into his own cheek did the writer have to shove his tongue to keep from guffawing out loud while suggesting that the republican wing of the Government Party will cut a single minim, jot or tittle from any ‘recalcitrant department or agency’ in any way or for any offense, up to and including infant sacrifices on the roof of the IRS building*? Or that congressional democrats really pee themselves at the thought of an overreaching republican? Are we truly not supposed to notice that no incoming administration, however supposedly radical, ever undoes the work of its predecessor but only builds on it? Just how stupid do these people think … scratch that. I know the answer.

*Which I do not allege. Everyone knows they do that in the basement.
