Missing the point in epic fashion

One of the fun things about gungrabber propaganda is the mindlessly relentless way they focus on their nemesis and arch-enemy, the vile, cruel and heartless (cover your children’s ears if you’re reading this to them aloud) National Rifle Association.

It’s well known, apparently, that the National Rifle Association is the source of all things violent and atavistic in American society. It must be so, or writers of hoplophobic screeds like this one wouldn’t repeat it so obsessively.

The will of the American people is being thwarted by the National Rifle Association. Its lobbyists, campaign contributions and advertising so intimidate politicians that surveys showing support for tougher gun laws are the only polls they ignore.

You see? It’s all so simple. The American people want rational, common-sense measures to eliminate gun violence written into law. Mothers stand in the doorways of their little tykes’ bedrooms and weep, knowing their innocence will be ripped from them at some point by gun violence slathered across our nation like mayonnaise on french fries by the despicable but invincible National Rifle Association.

You see, the National Rifle Association has somehow amassed so much money that it has grown capable of simply shoving aside the otherwise overwhelming Will of the People. With the exception of twelve gap-toothed, beer-bellied gun huggers in central Michigan and some Chicago gang bangers, nobody in America wants guns in civilian hands but the unspeakable – but incessantly spoken – National Rifle Association presses them into our resisting hands.

Or something. I confess the logic of the argument escapes me. But it leads seamlessly to synthesis, if by that we mean that the antidote for money is money.

Enter Michael Bloomberg’s deep pockets. The dreaded National Rifle Association cannot buy politicians, the argument apparently goes, if Bloomberg already owns them. Simple, right? As simple as “Fewer guns means less gun violence.”

And as fallacious. The problem is that the resurgence of gun rights activism in this country has very little to do with the NRA. You already know that and so do I. But don’t let’s anybody tell Bloomberg or his propagandists. Their silly zero-sum reasoning is too fun to watch.

Wait, the NRA forces guns into our hands? How did I miss this? I thought you had to buy guns with your own money. I’ll take some guns from NRA so that poor little Bloomberg doesn’t have to. I am ready to make this sacrifice for the people!

  2. Epat says:

The NRA has what; 4,800,000 dues paying members? That might have something to do with their power in all things guns.
How many does Bloomberg have? Guess he can only count the ones not in jail.
Bloomie might also remember that your average Midwest state puts 600,000 gun toting deer hunters into the field on any given opening weekend.

  3. MamaLiberty says:

Oh yeah! When does the NRA start handing out guns? I can always use a few more. But it seems only fair for the NRA to hand out ammo too. What the heck, I’d even buy it!

    No? Just another Bloomy lie.

    Shucks.
