C-c-c-cold…

Should have lit a fire last night I guess, then maybe it wouldn’t be so freezy in here. 24 blessed degrees outside, and I am not gladdened by the knowledge that it could – and inevitably will – get worse.

C’mon, wood stove.

I hate winter.

ETA: Decided this would be a perfect time to bake some breakfast cornbread. What is it with stoves, anyway? In the summer, the kitchen stove can make the cabin go from too hot to WAY too hot before the pan is on the rack. In the winter it seem to have no effect at all.

ETAM: I don’t believe it. The water froze! The %#@@! water froze? It’s only mid-twenties out and the water froze.

Now I’m in a tizzie. This should not have happened. I’ve got to go up on the ridge and make sure it’s not the cistern.

ETAEM: It’s not the cabin insulation that failed. I went out to the yard spigot, and it’ll emit a low-spot-in-the-system trickle but nothing more. Which means that blasted manifold at the bottom of the cistern froze again. Which means I’m exactly one day late burying it like I did last November. Also means I have to wait till the ice melts before correcting that. I’m probably best off putting a hose on the spigot and letting the trickle run, to encourage the ice to melt. But first I’ll use it to fill a water bottle.
