Chapter One, in which Zoe meets her match

Family arrived safe yesterday afternoon, after an epic drive from Kansas. I showed them around the place (Daughter was particularly interested in M’s Dome, having developed an interest in (shudder) earthships) then brought them to the Secret Lair. Kaelyn met Zoe, who did not know how to react to this squealing little bundle of danger. After being cooped up in a small car for eighteen hours or so, Kaelyn was rarin’ for some action. Zoe, like Click before her, took refuge behind the big chair. But still – baby! There must be some good swatting fun in that scenario somewhere, if only she could exploit it without getting killed or something.

AtH is out harassing the local rodents with deadly weapons right now, and I just received a warning text that involved something about rabbit chili.

About Joel

You shouldn't ask these questions of a paranoid recluse, you know.

  1. Bear says:

Wait… You’re out in the desert. Getting text messages from someone… out in the desert… who’s hunting…

You have forfeited your claim to the title of “hermit”.

  2. MamaLiberty says:

Indeed, Bear! He has solar panels and all kinds of modern stuff. I’m sure most of the hermits in history would LOVE to have had any or all of it. A hermit is merely one who CHOOSES when and to whom he relates… It has nothing to do with technology. 🙂

But yeah, it’s a little hard to picture Joel getting text messages from someone hunting in the desert even so. LOL Rabbit chili sounds interesting…

  3. Bear says:

It’s not the tech (my brother-in-law called me a hi-tech redneck). It’s the matter of isolation. _I’m_ more isolated… in the cabin… on the dirt road… in the woods…

I did get the darnedest email this morning though. Something about testifying before the NLRB. Heh.

Rabbit chili sounds goods. I haven’t had rabbit in 4-5 years.

  4. coloradohermit says:

    Gorgeous grandbaby! Enjoy your visit,

  5. LJH says:

Hmmm … that kid is really pretty … are you sure you’re related?

  6. M says:

She needs a hat she’s not afraid to walk down the street in – naw – too cute.

  7. Joel says:

She is very fortunate in that she doesn’t look a single thing like me.

  8. Buck. says:

    You got that right.
