I want to know what happened to my freakishly warm winter. Did one of you sneak in here and steal it?

“Clearly,” smirked the giant pile of firewood cluttering my yard, “You weren’t as finished with us as you thought you were, were you? Shouldn’t have given in to the hubris and wishful thinking and torn down that woodshed as early as you did, should you?”
“Screw you,” I growled, my eyes narrowing with a steely glint as if I’d been reading too much Zane Grey, “I have lots of propane, and I’m not afraid to use it.”

And so the woodstove and its extensive wood-chopping infrastructure remains mothballed and un-messy, …

But I will confess that nice new canvas chore coat came out of its plastic bag. Because this is precisely the sort of day for which countless Mexicans gave their poorly-paid labor making it.

Little Bear is already pouting, knowing by the signs that he’s seen all the walkies and Jeep rides he’s going to see until afternoon chicken chores.
This is a day for sittin’ and readin’ and drinkin’ tea. Earl Grey. Hot.

Tearing down your woodshed was probably a jinx, but I think I might have helped. We’ve also had a warm winter and it looked like planting season was going to be a little early this year. So, I started some veg seeds in the nice warm laundry room…. Now we’re forecast for 10-12″ of snow tonight and another 10-12″ Friday into Saturday. The good news is that we desperately need the moisture, so I’ll not complain(much) about having to move all those pots whenever I need to use the washer or dryer.
And our cat looks just as mopey as LB over my mismanagement of the weather.
Joel you know how the old saying goes… How do you make God laugh? Tell him your plans. And that, my friend, is why the weather is crappy. Sooner or later kicking and screaming spring will finally grace us with her appearance. Let’s just hope it’s sooner rather than later..
Almost planted green beans over the weekend – Provider – their seeds can stand cold soil without rotting. Soil temp was 50 degrees. But then…sleet, rain, wind, hard freeze last night, snow on the way. Maybe in a week or two. But my rhubarb is up and has leaves.
Joel! You could grow rhubarb and together with sauteed dandelions (pick before they flower, they are bitter once they bloom) have delicious fresh food in early spring. If you do grow rhubarb, buy one of the new kinds that are semi-sweet and red all the way through the stalk (Starkrimson is one). Rhubarb is a heavy feeder, a use for your composted (not fresh) chicken poo and straw. Think of all the rhubarb bars, pies, cobbler, muffins you could enjoy. Wonderful smell while they bake and you read. Great with tea.
Gardening commenced here over the weekend. Rainy now . . . good.
