Scary Manifesto that keeps getting pushed down on the sidebar by filthy capitalism!
They say that Louis XIV had the inscription Ultima Ratio Regum cast into all the cannon of the French Army. It means “The Ultimate Argument of Kings,” and that always struck me as one of the most honest and up-front things any ruler or would-be ruler ever said. “We can dress it up prettier than this, but when it comes down to the unvarnished truth this is what it’s about: You’ll do as I say or I’ll send my goons to kill you.”
I thought about that for a long time. If there’s an ultimate argument, it seems only logical that there must be an ultimate answer. For years I thought the ultimate answer must be the bullets in my rifle, but it never seemed quite right. I’ve got bullets – he’s got frigging Cannon Balls. I mean, if there were three hundred million rifles throwing bullets at him, then maybe. But we all know that’s not going to happen. So if there’s an ultimate answer to his ultimate argument, it sure as hell ain’t bullets.
It finally came to me – and that’s when I abandoned the city and most of my stuff, and gave all that was behind me a good stiff Randian Shrug.
The ultimate answer to kings is not a bullet, but a belly laugh.

“Nice Day for it.”
Yessir it is a pert near perfect day out here in the boonies of SouTex.
Getting many of the little 15 minute projects done that needed the nice weather or the room to work outside.
[removing the winter window coverings, swapping heaters for floor fans, et cetera, et cetera.]
Just one problem on this end…. I don’t have access to a shooting range within 60 miles.
8 gallons of gas [4 gals each way] to go pay someone to shoot my own ammo.
I can’t believe that this county has not one public shooting range.
Even the Po-Lice and the County Mounties have to make do with only a 20′ pistol range.
BUT as you say golly-miss-molly what a pretty day it is hereabouts. [no sarcasm intended]
stay safe
Tuesday night’s forecast here is 7 with 30mph gusts. Dunno about the windchill as I’m afraid to look. Gasoline cost for the remote free outdoor range equals the cost of gas and fees for the nearby indoor range . The free range is inaccessible due to snow; the indoor range is heated with a bathroom and the sole female clerk is cute and knows my name but I can’t zero my rifle there. Life is too complicated. And all the politicians should just shut the heck up.
18 degrees outside right now, wind blowing hard. I’m going to stay inside and have another cup of coffee. 🙂
I would certainly hope so! 🙂
My forecast is for a high of 32, and 12-18″ of heavy, wet snow.
I would very much like to shoot something.
Sometimes the desert is a great place…I spent Saturday at the range all day, shooting a match with my Krink. 🙂
A few nights ago the low temperature was 4. One year ago the high was 84. At least conditions are variable. It would be boring if the weather were perfect for shootin’ every day. OTOH, I wouldn’t mind never ever needing a snow shovel again.
