Here’s a shocking new truth every shooter has known for eighty years or so…
U.S. Gun Sales are Being Used to Save the Environment
Actually I don’t know whether the money is ‘saving the environment,’ but let that go for a minute. First, the set-up: Get a load of the very first para…
Despite President Obama’s ongoing call to reduce gun violence, firearm sales have continued to soar in the U.S.
Get it? Firearm sales = gun violence, you scum, you. All you atavistic haters need to do is stop buying guns and there’s no problem, I guess.
Oh, and stop doing drive-by shootings in Chicago, okay? Yeah, I’m looking at you, Mama Liberty.
Anyway. Having gotten that non sequitur out of his or her system, the writer wanders to the point.
As this surge in gun sales continues, there’s one group of federal initiatives that are reaping serious rewards: environmental programs.
Thanks to laws like the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration and Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration acts, both of which were established decades ago, the Obama administration announced it would be able to distribute $1.1 billion to help state environmental programs.
Both acts funnel tax revenue from the sale of items like firearms, ammunition, and bows – as well as fishing materials like tackle and boat engines – for use in wildlife conservation across the U.S.
Ha ha! Foolish gun huggers! Your evil deeds have been turned against you!
Yeah, except it has always been so. Back when I used to read a lot of gun rags, it was monotonously crowed to the skies how much hunter, fisherman and shooter money ended up going to “the environment.” This NSSF release (PDF) claims the whole thing was the idea of ‘the firearms and ammunition industry.’ I don’t know if that’s true, but I do know the excise tax and its distribution is very long-standing and has never been a secret. At least not from hunters, fishermen and shooters.
It’s a big juicy surprise to gun grabbers, though. Having been informed of it, some think it’s a delicious joke on us evil gun huggers.
Irony alert; When these rwnjs buy weapons & bullets $ goes to buy land for conservation. #Oregonstandoff Pittman-Robertson Act

Yeah. Irony. Because of course hunters like guns, and people who like guns care only for violence and destruction. Couldn’t possibly want to help make sure there a place to hunt still left next year or anything.
Sheesh.

Anyone can preserve the environment or promote “conservation” with private property and individual action. Though most outdoor and shooting folks have grown resigned to the tax -just remember most of that tax is hidden – such redistribution of wealth is not required for our peaceful enjoyment of nature. But, oh well.
Now, let’s see if I have enough gas money to make it to Chicago! [grin] And back?
I would consider “and back” to be very important, ML. 🙂
ML: Stop in at Madison WI on your way home. Just hose off the blood from the outside of the car so the neighbors won’t know you’re coming from Chicago.
Just hush… !!! You guys are going to get me in trouble yet.
But really, at my age don’t you think I know how these things work? Get real. Why would I use my own car?
😀
Shhh. Don’t tell them where the money from the “Environment” license plates on their Subarus goes here in Indiana… 😉
I seriously doubt any of the shooters in Chicago or any other urban craphole are contributing to the Pittman Robertson fund. You actually have to, you know, like , BUY gun stuff from a legitimate dealer to pay the tax.
The gun seller on the street isn’t collecting the tax, nor the gun smugglers or thieves. Not collecting sales tax either, or the fee some charge for the Background checks. Or paying for a business license, FFL license and all the other fleecing the various .govs can come up with.
And those evil dastardly fly fishermen (women)! Criminals all of them. Blood on their hands !
Remember also that Bill Clinton tried to put the PR funds in the general accounts to use for other things and got his hand slapped for it.
