I totally did not know this.
It should come as no surprise that the word whiskey comes from the Gaelic uisge, a shortened version of uisge beatha meaning “water of life,” also known as aqua vitae in Latin.
There was a time when my habits regarding alcohol became worrisome to me. Happens when you’re unhappy, I guess. I’m no longer the alky I used to be, but I still retain a thoroughly Irish attitude toward whiskey. Sláinte!

I did know the derivation of the word as I’m very keen on Islay Scotch. My salvation is the several I like are $100 a bottle and that prevents a lot of problems. Cheap whiskey, well that’s just so wrong on so many levels.
