It’s summer, so it’s hot. So far there’s almost no sign of monsoon, though we do get windy bits that might eventually add up to a weather change.

Tobie and I are walking again. For a while it was very minimal. I don’t know what my problem was but I stopped eating – and when you stop eating you don’t have any energy.

The cattle don’t have any problem with energy. Or eating. Or finding my favorite trails and shitting all over them. I hate cattle.
A couple of weeks ago I somehow ended up at the Walmart in the biggish town about 50 miles away.
I get a kick out of the compromise the store came up with. For the longest time there was a no-guns policy but most people ignored it. Around here, anyway, they sort of split the difference.

Keep your damn guns if you must, just cover them up so we don’t have to put up with all the komplaining karens, okay?
Anyway: Like I said I’d stopped eating so I used the opportunity of a Walmart to get some more savory food than I usually eat in hopes of stirring up my appetite. Among which…

This is the second piece of real cow other than hamburger I’ve had in something like 20 years. I tried some beef a few months ago from the local market and, in addition to the price, the quality was really off-putting. This, though, was worthy.
It took me like 3 days to work up the ambition to do it justice, and even then I ended up having it for breakfast. So honest-to-goodness steak and eggs. And it was gooood. The first food I’d enjoyed eating in over a month.

Tobie kept me company. In case I fainted or something.
And I promptly got the scoots, and didn’t dare get far from a toilet for half the rest of the day. Still worth it.
I haven’t been working on many projects but my scrounging game is still strong.

Can you believe somebody wanted to get rid of this? I really could have used it back when I was doing a lot of building but it’ll still be useful. The older I get, the heavier propane bottles get. Of course it was being thrown away for a reason…

But that’s a fixable reason. In fact it’s effectively fixed. I got two new tires and tubes and they’re already on so the wagon has four tires that will hold pressure. But I still need two more and they’re on the way. Then it’ll be good as new.
So that’s all that’s been going on. Except we buried another neighbor yesterday.

It happens. Not everybody can be in excellent health and spirits like me.

That’s an interesting Walmart sign. I’m curious to know what sensory-friendly hours means. I’ve never seen or heard that before. Being a fellow geezer and hermit, I don’t get out much.
And those carts are a geezer’s necessity, next to a wheelbarrow with TWO wheels. I’m about 4-5 years ahead of you in the chronology game and last year I finally broke down and bought one of those carts. In the great inventions category they rank right up there with electricity, soap, and toilet paper.
Glad to hear you’re on the mend. I went through….something….back in January that had me down hard for a couple weeks, but nothing like what you experienced.
RE: the cart. I’ll +1 it. I added a sheet of 3/4 plywood to the floor of mine, cut to fit tightly. Made it easier to carry odd stuff. Mine still has the pneumatic tires, which is a small PITA, requiring pumping up periodically. If/when they give out I’ll go to runflats, which will be $$ because it’s a wheel swap. I changed the side hinge pins for extra large “hairpin R clips” (that’s what Amazon calls them). Makes it easier to pop the sides off when I need a large flat bed to haul bigger stuff. Some day I’ll make a longer tongue for it, the “as issued” one is a bit short for hauling long stuff like lumber.
Doesn’t your leg set off the senser?
If you have the same brand as this one, look under the steering swivel. I found a tongue extension stored under there which would have been useful during the many times I’ve used this one with the sides folded down moving wood pellets.
Glad you’re on the mend!
I kept the runs for almost 3 weeks, finally go to the quacks, chit in a cup and the tests says nothing was wrong. Of course the day after doing that things start getting better.
Even quit drinking beer! At least for a month or so. Have no clue what brought all that on. I’m sure the quack will want me to submit to the garden hose up the exhaust pipe test soon.
Yea….
The solid cart tires are a necessity in the desert. Thorn, rocks, etc. ate mine within 12 months. The cheap tool company has them at a reasonable price and mine are about 10 years old now. I cut and spliced about 4 ft of scrap conduit/tubing into the handle, making it much easier to pull across rough surfaces, over rocks, etc. A couple of thru bolts to hold it together. Condolences on the loss of the neighbor – the older we get, etc.
That cart is a heck of a good find, Joel. I’m glad you’re back and on the mend.
Jim Price, not only Walmart but other places have been incorporating sensory friendly hours. The sensory friendly hours are when the stores turn off the damn elevator music, turn off the wall of TVs and turn down the harsh lighting a bit to make the stores a little easier on the eyes and ears. There are even special times for movie goers at Cineplex where the volume in the movie theatre are turned down to a reasonable level.
The “Sensory-friendly” hours are the times you can enter the store and expect to not see any WalMartians.
They are not out-and-about at those times.
