…and under the right incitement, he doesn’t care.
Yesterday was a cool and cloudy day, spitting rain, just right for spending indoors. Ghost is off visiting his mom, LB enjoyed as much time indoors with Dad as he could stand and then wanted out.
Some time passed. I was drowsing over a book when there was a rattle and an unholy BANG that shook the cabin to its roots.
I ran to the door. Good thing I didn’t take that next step…
This wouldn’t have been so extraordinary if, after the last time LB destroyed a set of steps, I hadn’t attached this set to the cabin with a couple of shelf brackets. Made little difference, except this time he didn’t send them tumbling across the yard.
I looked over at what had set him off, and couldn’t really blame him. It was like a rabbit convention over by the garden. Jacks and cottontails both, and the way they were staring it seemed they found the whole thing as unexpected as I did. Even LB seemed a little abashed.
I groused at him for it, but you’ve gotta know your dog’s limits. On the subject of rabbits, Little Bear has no filter. He goes from zero to hyperspeed with no transition, and anything he wrapped his cable around is going along for the ride no matter what it’s screwed down to.
Got up this morning at five, grumped down the ladder, and found one had come back again. I stopped killing rabbits years ago when I decided they’re not worth the trouble of eating, but this one pissed me off enough to take the .22 from the wall.
Be damned if I’ll put up with this.
Neighborhood’s supposed to get together for a shoot at Ian’s range this morning at eight. So I started the festivities a little early.
Later today I guess I’ll fix the stairs. Again.

unfortunately these things need a big hole digging http://www.solwayfeeders.com/products/solway-rabbit-drop-box-p1333-c184.html
Feed them to the dogs. Mine love them!
Ro beat me to it. My cats like ’em too. A few years back my 4 lb kitten dragged one in and put it in my wife’s closet for snacking. 2 days later the smell gave away it’s location. The partial carcass weighed close to 6 lbs.
Keith, that’s like a lobster trap for rabbits!
Ghost won’t touch them. LB would have eaten this one from the nose to the tail claws and all, and wanted to.
