Liquid Refreshment

Got an early start this morning, getting the ‘going to town’ thing out of the way.

Had to gather more fuel than usual, because two propane bottles emptied over the winter needed to be refilled. Should have waited for another day, because it has become tradition that Monday is the day we get water. Between me and D&L we had eight of those 3-gallon water jugs, and that’s too much with the gas cans and propane bottles. More than is fun, anyway.

🙂 Went to the food store, and didn’t buy anything but water and flour. Am I a rugged outdoorsman, or what?

Ghost is still not speaking to me, after a whole day. He was staring into the Jeep when I called his name to get him to look at the camera, and he just stalked away. He’s mad at me because I’m not S&L. He disappeared over to their place last Saturday morning, made it clear he never intended to return, and has sulked ever since they delivered him back to the cabin yesterday around noon. He’s gotten a lot worse about it; L tells me they practically have to pick him up and shove him into the truck when it’s time to leave, and he never used to make a fuss about it.

In a month or six weeks they plan to be living here full-time, and that’s almost certainly the last I’ll see of Ghost unless I come to visit. Even then sometimes he hides. After all these years, it kind of hurts my feelings.

About Joel

You shouldn't ask these questions of a paranoid recluse, you know.

That would be more than a lifetime supply of flour for me! Of course, bread is something we buy at the store.

I guess they dropped off Ghost because they were leaving. Why don’t they just leave the dog in their yard? Surely it will show up at your door when it gets hungry, and might behave better without the coercion. … But I suppose you have thought of all that stuff!

  2. Joel says:

Yeah, this has been going on over 10 years and there’s a tradition. For some reason lately though, Ghost has had enough of it. What’s funny is the coincidence – S&L really are moving in, and he’s about to get his life-long wish.

How’d the new gasoline cans work out? No leaks? Lid seals good?

  4. Joel says:

Oh, they work all too well. First time I opened the second one that had been sitting in the sun, it shot pressurized gasoline all over my boots and pants. Good thing I quit smoking.

  5. Mark Matis says:

Well look at it this way, Joel:

If you HADN’T quit smoking, that would probably have cured you of the habit…

He is sticking his tongue out at you too.

  7. Joel says:

Well, yeah. He kind of is. Thanks for pointing that out.
