Menace to Navigation

Rain and then more rain. Woke up at 2:30 to a furious thunderstorm, then after that passed there were several more stints of rain heavy enough to wake me up, my nose positioned as it was about two feet under the scene of the action.

No surprise as to the condition of my batteries, after so many gloomy days. The wonder is that they’re doing as well as they are.

Fortunately the clouds decided to part, at least for a while, right around the time the sun cleared the ridge. So right after this post I’m going to shut things off and grab some photons while I can.

I remember thinking, at some point while I was laying awake during the night, that if all this weather was also happening over the plateau to the east we were likely to get a flooded wash. I classed it as unlikely: The wash never runs in mid-October.

Then I stepped outside a little after seven to tend the chickens, and heard running water.

Since it stopped raining hours ago the level has obviously dropped quite a lot from its peak. But the wonder is that it ran at all. If the south wash ran as well, all the downstream crossings have been washed out and some people are going to be late for work.

“and some people are going to be late for work”
Desert hermits punch a timeclock? I had no idea.

I’m glad you checked in, all dry and cozy. Hope you stay that way. Our local forecast indicates that your weather is headed this way, so it’s nice to have a heads up that the dramatic prediction could actually come to pass. Nice being in town and not worrying one little bit about the state of batteries in the forest house.

So being the handy guy that you are, here are some plans that should be useful if it keeps raining.
