Air Force base pulls ad for MLK Day ‘fun shoot’
Um…yeah…
Y’know, it’s encouraging to know that somewhere out there is a person capable of an unthinking faux pas of this astonishing magnitude, who isn’t me.
The “fun shoot” was referring to a trap and skeet shooting competition at the base this coming Monday. Leach said the base’s leadership “realized the inappropriateness” of the flier several days ago and immediately began removing it from various locations.
“There was no malice of forethought in the flyer’s creation and it was never the base’s intention to portray Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a negative light,” he said.
“Malice of forethought?” I’m gonna go ahead and guess there was no forethought of any kind at all, malicious or otherwise.
A “Fun Shoot” should have been no problem. Tying it into MLK, especially with a picture, was not a good idea, obviously. And yes, in spite of spending vast sums on PR and community relations type activities and personnel… this would tend to prove there was little or no actual thinking involved, let alone forethought.
The blame game and finger pointing in their closed door meetings must be at a fever pitch about now.
ML, you are so right! They are all sitting around pointing at each other, while trying to size up their political currency to see if they have enough “pull” to save their own a** from being the one thrown under the bus.
Hi feralfae!! So good to see you! Sadly, the same mentality is present in so many parts of our society. I’d like a nickle for every staff and corporate meeting I’ve had to sit through while people did just that… not looking for ways to actually solve the problems, but for someone else to take the blame and not have it make more waves. The corruption is caused, in part, by being forced to play the “medicare” game (or whatever regulatory and financial nonsense) and that was a big part of why I bailed out early. The military, however, has always worked that way.
The phrase is ‘malice aforethought’ means the same thing as premditated.
