Okay, that’s totally my fault.

I should have known better. On my way to Friday shit-shoveling I dropped the boys off at Gitmo, same as always. It’s a very windy morning, and when I found the Gitmo door standing open I should have fixed it before I left. Because of course it would blow open again.

But no. I was in a hurry.

Anyway, I did my excrement-related duty, but I was in no hurry to rescue the boys because I’m scheduled to go to town with D&L anyway. So instead of going to get them I did some poking around in the wash for an hour or so. Getting hungry, I headed back to the Secret Lair.

Where Ghost was waiting for me, very excited. And Ghost had had himself an adventure in the meantime.

Mud up to the eyes. Considering that the last flash flood we saw was back in August, there aren’t a lot of natural places he could have found that much water. My first thought was that something horrifying had happened to Landlady’s water system, but I couldn’t find any evidence of that. There is one swimming hole I know of in a gully not far from Landlady’s property that holds water for a good long time, and I guess he must have wandered up into that. But my principal concern was Little Bear, who was nowhere to be seen.

Every now and then, though, just to keep me guessing, LB does something responsible. I drove back to Landlady’s and LB met me in her driveway. He was barely muddy at all. Possibly because of a scary experience he had a couple of years ago, LB isn’t as enthusiastic about standing water as he was when he was a pup. He’d had his run, but only the tips of his front paws showed mud. Which is good, because brushing that stuff out of him…(shudder)
