Okay, chapter 2 of the gripping gulch thriller, “Quest for Water Leaks!” (Part of Joel played by Bill Nye the Science Guy)

Overnight with all outlet valves closed, inlet valve open. I expected (hoped) to see substantial drop, since right now I’m hoping the problem is with the inlet check valve since that would be easy to fix. And the water level did drop…

…about an inch and a quarter. Less than half of the loss from the night before, which suggests there is a problem on Ian’s side of the system.
Now, yesterday was quite cloudy for most of the day, so I didn’t expect the tank to completely refill. But I wasn’t expecting over four inches of drop in the tank level, between sunrise and sunset!

I did use some water yesterday, of course. But not nearly that much.
So tonight, just for grins, I’m going to close all the valves including the inlet. This will, by all logic, block all passages by which water can leave the tank. The before and after levels should be precisely equal.
Should be.
Maybe that will bring me back to zero, and I can start eliminating possible leak sources and find a pattern that makes some sense.

Yup, I was thinking “Time to close ALL the valves” when lo-and-behold you were saying it. You have no idea how refreshing it is to see someone using proper troubleshooting logic attempting to isolate the problem. You go Bill! Er, I mean, Joel. BTW, yer graphic almost made me laugh-snort ginger ale out my nose.
