Rule #1: Don’t be a dick.

Tam starts fun arguments.

I guess I shouldn’t laugh: I OC day and night, except when I don’t, and it’s just about the only subject on which there’s an official TUAK policy, to wit:

There is no Official TUAK policy on OC. Do whatever you want, but do it while carrying a gun. And oh, yeah: Don’t Be A Dick.

In the state where I live, concealed carry without saying “mother may I” used to be illegal, while open carry wasn’t. OC was also just barely common enough that doing it wouldn’t get you busted for something like disturbing the peace. So I used to open carry in public more than I do now.

This is highly dependent on your environment, duh. When I lived in the Texas Panhandle, CC was illegal and OC wasn’t. But OC would get you busted every single time and nobody gave a damn if you carried concealed. So I carried concealed but didn’t get all nervous about printing. In California, any sign that you were carrying a gun at all would get you treated the way Hoover treated Dillinger, so I used to bury that sucker till it was probably useless.

Nowadays, of course, there’s usually nobody around to be offended so I wear my weapons the way I please. In town I usually throw a shirt on over them. I think concealed carry in a place where there’s nothing around but things you might need to shoot at is dumb. I think open carry in a place where it might cause you more trouble than it solves is…also dumb.

But then I never was an activist. And I’ve noticed that I usually end up blessing the activists, even when I thought they were wrong at the time.
