How long has it been since that big storm in the northeast? Weeks? Months? Seems like only a few days ago, but it must be longer than that because people can’t possibly have been this unprepared. I refuse to … okay, I’d really rather not believe it.
Man pulls gun in gas line, state troopers deployed at stations as tensions boil in Sandy’s wake
In New Jersey, where lines at the few stations that were able to pump fuel stretched for miles, state troopers were deployed at all gas stations along the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway as the region endures its fourth full day with massive power outages. Officials say Sandy-driven closures at refineries, the inability of tankers to dock and most of all, outages that prevent pumps from drawing fuel from underground tanks at stations have fewer than half of stations in the region pumping.
Who didn’t see that coming? Apparently miles worth of out-of-gas drivers didn’t see it coming enough to fill their tanks and whatever reserve capacity they could arrange. A whole four days. Wow. How the time flies. Don’t they sell gas cans in New Jersey? Is that one of those weird “liberal” laws we sane people take such pleasure in breaking?
Looters Prey On Sandy’s Hardest Hit
…New York City is devoting special resources to areas that have already been susceptible to post-storm thievery. According to Deputy Commissioner Browne, “police presence was stepped up along Mermaid Avenue and its vicinity, and additional light towers were erected.”
And of course nobody could have foreseen that. How often do people turn looter after a disaster? Oh yeah – all the time. Sounds like this one didn’t catch everybody with their pants down, though…
Although some homeowners in the area did consider the potential of looters in advance. One Twitter user posted an image allegedly taken during Hurricane Sandy of a boarded up house with the words “Please loot, I love to shoot,” spray painted across the doorway.
And of course, people are getting hungry. Because nobody could possibly go four whole days without running out of food. If only these poor people had had some warning that a storm was coming!
Supposedly some of these starved masses have taken to Dumpster-diving to ward off the pangs. When Alex Jones starts a rumor I tend to never give it credence ever again, and so far that policy has worked out pretty well for me. But I really have no trouble believing that there are people already out of food. Because people are stupid. Speaking of stupid, we’re going to be listening to stories about relief scams for the next several months – that’s my prediction for 2013, you heard it here first.
And speaking of the dumpster-diving story, this headline killed me…
OBAMA LEFT THEM BEHIND: HUNGRY DUMPSTER DIVING IN NYC
Right. Way to make some obvious political hay out of the situation. Assuming the dumpster story is true, and that it really was hungry people and not just underachieving looters without the gumption to break a window, Obama didn’t do it to them. Yeah, I love to hate Obama too. But they did it to themselves.
Because people are stupid.

Joel, you must be a cruel and despicable person. People have a basic human right to be taken care of by the government. Can you imagine the chaos if people had to be responsible for themselves?
Horrors!
Planning for and responding to disasters is the job of the government…….always has been and always will be. After all, they know how and normal people don’t. Those radicals who hoard a day or two of food and water should be shot. Their supplies should be confiscated and distributed fairly by the government. You think you’re so smart, just try getting by without electricity for several days sometime and see how well you do without the government to save you.
😉
Hard to believe that the Guns and Ammo Nazis of New Jersey let one slip through……
But I thought that all we needed was three days supply becase the government would be able to get help to us in three days. I guess not…
You think you’re so smart, just try getting by without electricity for several days sometime and see how well you do without the government to save you.
{shuffles feet) I’m so ashamed…
I heard some woman on an NPR report this afternoon whining about how it wasn’t FAAAAAAIIIIIIRRRRR that the government hadn’t taken care of everybody yet.
Yeah, really, really glad I don’t live in a city.
