Sometimes I really wish they could talk…

This soggy morning Ghost is wandering around the perimeter at his ease, as if he hasn’t a care in the world. He can’t even seem to find anything worth barking at. Yesterday morning he behaved in another way entirely. He didn’t want to leave the immediate yard around the Lair, and he barked constantly but not loudly – as if he wasn’t warning off outsiders so much as warning his pack. And finally he did something I don’t remember ever seeing him do before…

He climbed into the Jeep, on his accustomed seat. But instead of taking his usual nap, he kept right on barking. Out from the protective window.

The last time he acted like this, there were mountain lion (or possibly very large bobcat, but the boys aren’t impressed by bobcats) tracks in the sand of the wash. So it’s at times like this I believe I really ought to be paying attention. Unfortunately we’re at the limits of communication, so I have no serious idea what I’m supposed to be paying attention to.

  1. Kentucky says:

    Critters can sense bad juju.

Could be the situation with your neighbors.

    Remain vigilant.

When my dogs do that it is usually a bear going through. We have both black and grizzley. We only see one occasionally but more often can smell them as they tend to cash dead salmon and lay on the pile and smell like rotten fish.

  3. Last time I did that, I was constipated.

Which is, perhaps, why I am now single.
