The ol’ cedar rat has heard rumors of this thing called a ‘hand-held device,’ which may affect the way people read this blog.
I’m always behind – sometimes several years behind – every technological trend that’s ever been. I could tell you embarrassing stories about recorded music: Did you know record stores no longer sell eight-track tapes? Did you know that, er, there’s pretty much no longer any such thing as a record store? Because at different times both those facts have come as quite a surprise to dysfunctional ol’ Joel, and that was before he moved to the desert.
It’s really not difficult to be substantially hipper than I am, is all I’m saying. And I’ve noticed other blogs and news sites doing things I don’t understand with the way they present information, and I begin to suspect it’s because people are doing different things with the way they read information, like getting it from their smart phones instead of off the company-issued desktop in their cubicles during work hours the way God intended.
I have no way of knowing how true and/or widespread this is, or whether it’s affecting the way I should be laying out TUAK posts. To my pleased surprise, in its almost five years of existence TUAK has developed a smallish but quite dedicated group of regular readers and I don’t want to annoy you guys. So if there are adjustments I could make to things I’m doing here, adjustments that will, you know, enhance your calm, do please take this opportunity to clue me in.

I know what you mean. My 30 readers have never mentioned using their ‘throwaway phones’ for browsing my site. But I installed a plugin called “WPtouch just in case. Can’t test it on a phone cause I don’t have one.
WP 3.6 has a “phone friendly” theme included, “Twenty Thirteen”. I previewed it and I don’t like it for The Cafe.
Install the WPtouch plug in as it doesn’t change what we see on our desktops and allows the iAnything crowd to suffer through. 🙂
Laptop. And I thought moving to one of those was hip. As for smart phones, won’t have one until I’m smart enough to figure out how to make one work. (which means they will be obsolete by then)
The site looks fine on my android phone and my tablet. Please don’t change anything.
I hate it when perfectly fine functional things get “improved” and crap everything up about the perfectly functioning functions.
I surf on a laptop,so your blog is fine with me.My cell phone is a couple generations older than a smart phone, and even so,I don’t know how to do all it’s capable of.I guess I’m the old dog that can’t (or won’t )learn new tricks.
works fine on Android phones with default browser, Firefox, and a very cool RSS feed reader called RssDemon elite. In fact the rss reader works so well I only visit the website when I want to comment. The only shortcoming is with embedded vids not showing up as a link in the feed article but that is a minor issue. Things don’t need to change. Unless you’re bored and feel like change.
OOH,OOH…more puppy pics!!! Never too many Ghost & LB stories!
Due to hair loss, I’m viewing with a slap top
Please do not adjust your set. Works fine in Feedly.
Works fine on iphone 3Gs running ios4.0 (I think) please don’t change!
If it ain’t broke, etc.
Them thar smarty phonies are much smarter than lil ‘ol I, Plus they have itybittyweelittle screens that hold squiggles that approximate text, but, my way old laptop, older tablet and antique desktop like your site just fine.
Your desire to “fix it” precedes any need.
‘Scuse me while I whip this thing out…
Nope – my cell phone doesn’t want to do anything intertubes-wise – probably can’t – that’s what I wanted 4-5 years ago.
I’m pretty much with coloradohermit – but I will say that sometimes it’s hell trying to figure out what you’re trying to communicate with the videos – being video impaired with this system!
By most standards I wander the web with some pretty outdated hard and soft-ware. It’s probably more of a wonder that I can still view your site!
On the plus side – kudos for going with WP – where you don’t need to have JS and cookies enabled to comment.
