That went well…

Just spent three hours over at Former Neighbor J&H’s place with D&L, for the second episode of the “Give All J&H’s Stuff Away” show. L, having been closer to H than I ever was, looked at a lot of this stuff and said, “No way [H] doesn’t want to keep this.” So she got on the phone across the country, and sure enough the list of stuff I need to box up and ship interstate grew much longer. Fine, better that than hard feelings. I’d wondered about some of that personal stuff myself.

While we were at it, there was the sound of a diesel and a big white pickup pulled into the yard. Who should it be but the new property owners! Nice folks, and as advertised they plan to use the place as a vacation property at least for a while. Which of course means they need a caretaker. Which in turn means Joel is still employed. Which is good.

I’ve got several days’ work here, but D&L drove away with a pickup full of furniture and it looks as if L has appointed herself my helper/supervisor, so one way or another it’ll get done. Also the new owner said I should just leave any utility stuff the neighborhood doesn’t want, and that saves me from having to haul a ton of perfectly good shelves/fasteners/fluids and materials wastefully to the dump.

Overall, I’m feeling better about life than I was at sunup. When somebody says, “Just keep doing what you’ve been doing, and I’ll keep paying you for it,” that’s the right answer.

About Joel

You shouldn't ask these questions of a paranoid recluse, you know.

Congratulations Joel on your new neighbors AND continued employment.

It’s like the original ET (Ernest Tubbs) said “Remember folks, Be better to your neighbors and you’re going to have better neighbors.”
