Every day for almost a week I’ve gotten a telephone call from some number I don’t recognize. I don’t answer those telephone calls. Not ever.
So until yesterday it was a mystery just why someone kept calling me, over and over, without ever leaving a message. Yesterday that someone left a message.
The voice was a woman, clearly not a recording or reading a script. She said she was from the CDC, was conducting a poll, and wanted me to call back and tell her how many children resided in my home.
This may shock you, but I rudely did not return the call. Just now the phone rang again. Same number. No message. I just looked up the area code, which is 312, as coming from downtown Chicago.
So there’s a tax-eating woman in Chicago with far too much time on her hands, and no access to NSA data. Just so you know.

She’s working late.
I agree with you, it’s none of their damn beeswax.
Hmmm. Perhaps they’re concerned you caught bird flu from the ladies?
It all starts with seemingly insignificant things like this – just ask Buttle.
I would be wondering how they got my number – and thinking evil things about whoever gave it to them.
(it was probably your doctor visit/s – you’ve got an online digital file now, Sir. Obviously your info isn’t secure or you wouldn’t have every Tom, Dick, and Harry calling you as evidenced from your post.)
Good luck with those Freedom of Association matters!
I can’t hear much on the telephone, so seldom use it myself, but I do get telemarketer and “survey” calls occasionally. Most are recordings… they expect me to call them back? Oh sure. I hang up as soon as I realize it’s a recording. If it is a real person, I listen long enough to establish that, then hang up. I will not participate in “surveys” of any kind.
But one caller is quite a mystery, and I’ve ALMOST been tempted to listen to the whole recording… so far have resisted – but listened enough to know that this outfit is trying to track someone I never heard of… I have no idea why they are calling me (at least once a week for the last two years), and I have no intention of calling them to find out… but it does drive me crazy sometimes because I don’t know how to make them stop calling without falling into the trap of talking to them!! The “caller ID” doesn’t show any identifiable number, so I never know who they are until I answer.
I’m almost tempted to just forget about the telephone…
Been getting the same calls and a monthly message for the last 3 months from them. It’s on my backup cellphone which is only turned on when I’m on call at work and I don’t want to be disturbed by anyone but work. Someday I may answer rather than use the minutes to check the monthly voicemail. I’d love to know if they just use a random list of numbers or if it was someone else’s phone number at one point.
No call’s in the last 2 weeks though, hopefully they have given up.
