“Periods of sun and clouds,” they said. “Possible afternoon shower,” they said. It’s snowing like there was a big sale at the snow store.

Scary Manifesto that keeps getting pushed down on the sidebar by filthy capitalism!
They say that Louis XIV had the inscription Ultima Ratio Regum cast into all the cannon of the French Army. It means “The Ultimate Argument of Kings,” and that always struck me as one of the most honest and up-front things any ruler or would-be ruler ever said. “We can dress it up prettier than this, but when it comes down to the unvarnished truth this is what it’s about: You’ll do as I say or I’ll send my goons to kill you.”
I thought about that for a long time. If there’s an ultimate argument, it seems only logical that there must be an ultimate answer. For years I thought the ultimate answer must be the bullets in my rifle, but it never seemed quite right. I’ve got bullets – he’s got frigging Cannon Balls. I mean, if there were three hundred million rifles throwing bullets at him, then maybe. But we all know that’s not going to happen. So if there’s an ultimate answer to his ultimate argument, it sure as hell ain’t bullets.
It finally came to me – and that’s when I abandoned the city and most of my stuff, and gave all that was behind me a good stiff Randian Shrug.
The ultimate answer to kings is not a bullet, but a belly laugh.

We were supposed to have a weather event yesterday of biblical proportions with snow, freezing rain and rain. We got about a half inch of snow and that was it. Got to love the weathertainers. They, ever so confidently, predict a global climate catastrophe in the next 50 to 100 years but can’t accurately predict next week’s, let alone tomorrow’s weather.
Now Joel, they didn’t say what kind of shower.
I blame you, this is what happens when you tear down your woodshed before spring really springs!
I met a NWS person whose unenviable task was to forecast the amount of river rise from rain. When she told me what she did for a living, I responded “Oh, cool!” The look of relief and appreciation on her face was priceless. She said “OMG, no one ever says that to me! Thank you so much!” I bet I coulda gotten lucky if I had tried…
Sunny, warm and no wind here in Northern, Northern Kaliphornia for a change this Spring. Lately we’ve been getting all the rain and snow that the drought denied us for the last several years. Thanks to your woodshed tear down we finally got a bit of Sun and warmth today. Hat’s off to you Joel!

🙂 Robert, my big brother used to fix traffic lights for a living. Everybody has at least one traffic light he loves to hate. When I was in high school he told me once that if he was in a bar and somebody asked what he did for a living, he always said he was an undertaker. That ended the conversation neatly.
Big brother’s good answer would’ve piqued my interest and resulted in a bunch of questions. I’ve been told I don’t pick up social cues very well. If ya don’t ask, you don’t learn stuff.
