This is frickin’ amazing!

Just got back from shit-shoveling. Two days after lens-replacement surgery on my left eye, which has been my good one for several years.

The result of surgery on the right eye was a definite but not gob-smacking improvement. The cataract is gone and I’m no longer myopic, but there’s still the glaucoma damage and astigmatism and generally I really need glasses – for the right side.

On the left side, my distance vision is now superior to anything I’ve ever had – even wearing glasses. Not 20/20 and never will be, I’m told, but then I don’t even know what that’s like so I don’t miss it. But the point is…

The ground at my feet is fuzzy, but I can see well enough to collect horseshit and avoid Little Bear’s offerings. At arm’s length, I can’t quite focus on my pistol’s front sight. So yeah, still need glasses. BUT at a farther distance, I can see the junipers on the hills around me!

I have never been outdoors wearing nothing on my eyes but sunglasses in my entire long life without needing a leader dog. This is awesome.

Oh, I’m so glad. 🙂 And once you get the glasses your entire world will change magically.

I was legally blind (without corrective lenses) from birth, and suffered much with coke bottle glasses until the new plastic ones were affordable. Now even babies can be given contact lenses, but nothing was available back then.

But the change after my cataract surgery in ’06 was nothing less than a miracle. Most of the time, for most things, I don’t need glasses at all now. Can’t count the times I’ve driven to town and only realized I forgot the glasses when I had a hard time reading the small print at the grocery store!!

I grew up with coke bottle bottom glasses, eventually got the lazer thing. I can now clearly see at 100m+ if the light is good. It’s amazing. On the other hand, I still (it’s been a few years) fight the habit of bringing something closer to look at it. Ouch.

And it stuffed up my low-light definition, but that’s besides the point.

Have you noticed that your eyes now glint in the dark like a cat’s? Or at least my mother, who also has replacement lenses’, does.
