Something else I was taught when I was a little boy: There are two signs of a nation that has drifted or been pushed into totalitarianism. Those signs are: Torture of suspects as an actual policy of government, and “Papiere, bitte.”

  1. just waiting says:

The 1st time we were “allowed” back to the shore after Sandy, it was on busses with armed escorts after having surrendered a valid driver’s license and shown other proof of residence at the sign in center. After that, it was armed checkpoints, NatGuard roadblocks, cops on every block, curfews, etc. for almost 3 months.
