When you keep having the same problem over and over, no matter where you go…

…it’s possible the problem is you.

George Zimmerman injured in Florida shooting: police

Been around guns most of my life. Competed in the late seventies and early eighties. You know how many ‘shooting incidents’ I’ve been involved with? Zero. My friend Ian over here, hell, his dad is a published Arisaka scholar. Wouldn’t be surprised if his cradle was made of guns. He’s an active competitor, he’s a better shooter than I am. You know how many ‘shooting incidents’ he’s been involved with? Zero. Neighbor D up the valley: Raised around guns from his earliest memory. Shooting incidents? Zero.

Seems to happen to this guy Zimmerman every other time I turn on the radio. A vague suggestion of a pattern begins to emerge.

Or… he’s just become a target. Remember when a “gunfighter” had to expect some young buck to challenge him constantly, and shoot his way out often? These days, the “young bucks” have no intention of confronting him directly, and the race haters are always happy to make trouble. I don’t think he goes looking for a drive by shooter to attack him.

He could use some help learning how to pick his women, obviously, but the guy is only human.

I was involved in a “shooting incident,” and only luck stood between me and having killed him. I wasn’t even raised around guns. It happens.

  2. Well … (RayGun Sigh) .. there you go again.

    Same thing.

I’ve been shooting in competition for 50+ years, and never pointed a gun at a living creature that I didn’t intend to eat. Well, except for Communists in the early seventies, most of whom I missed clean.

    But that’s a different story.’

Never had the intention that I wanted to harm my fellow man … nor did you, apparently.

Never hesitated when it seemed necessary, however repugant.

Those Liberal fellows who want to portray us as “Gun Nuts” never had a clue; never willl. They just want to make the world a better place by making decisions for us, even if we don’t agree with them.

It has never occurred to them that the people who WOULD disarm are those who CANNOT disarm our own selves.

Because the Bad Guys will always have guns. And the only way to insure peace, is to prepare for war.

I’m agreeing with the above. To me, it was somebody else firing shots at Zimmerman, who did not fire back. But I take your point – when you have a series of run ins, you are in the wrong place or you are pissing people off.

Either way – cut it out.

“Or… he’s just become a target” It’s possible that to some extent both of you are right. He probably is a target of some sort, but judging from the number of other incidents, it’s also likely that he is an …hole. Since what we (think we) know is filtered through the distorted lens of the media, and further distorted by politics, we can only guess the truth.

What I find totally disgusting is the media completely re-trying him every time his name comes up in a “he got away with MURDER and totally deserves whatever happens to him cuz he shot an INNOCENT UNARMED BLACK CHILD and he’s a RACIST PIG” kinda presentation.

He may not be a choir boy, but the media is SO in the tank over this.

  6. Gonewiththewind says:

Zimmerman has indeed had problems. But when the FOX news reader was reporting this latest incident the glee he had reporting it was huge. Zimmerman is the target of everyone especially the media. BUT, in all Zimmermans past “problems” not a single conviction. In his spats with his girlfriends not even court dates never mind a conviction. Why is that? Everyone is gunning for him and the buildup each time he was in trouble was a big deal but the DA’s didn’t even waste their time. Well the obvious reason is that what you heard in the media is not the truth because if Zimmerman had actually harmed his girlfriends or threatened them the police and DA would show the same glee that the news reader showed and prosecute the shit out of him. SO while it is true zimmerman has seemingly had some public “problems” it is also true that he did nothing criminal. It seems to be true in this case as well. Eventually more will come out and we can all decide what happened and who was at fault. I’m guessing that shooting at someone driving down the road in a car is a felony and that the police will get this guy and he will face charges. All of this makes Zimmerman a victim not a criminal.
My advice to Zimmerman is to leave Florida and change your name. Move to California or Texas and change your name to something more hispanic and grow a beard and you will look like half the population there. The police and media are after you and sooner or later they will get you.

Oh, I completely agree. And that’s why I, along with a lot of other people, have defended him through kneejerk sympathy even though his very first famous action was tactically questionable at best – in short he put himself in a place where he could get half beaten to death and then had to shoot his attacker.

Am I attacking the victim now? Not in the least. You don’t get to beat people to death because they’re annoying, and Trayvon Martin put himself in a position where his victim had no choice but to shoot him. All the demonization and ‘stand your ground’ conflation and ‘white hispanic’ nonsense made it easier for me to take Zimmerman’s side – even though I thought at the time he was an idiot. He was wrong to follow Trayvon Martin around like Batman, but he wasn’t wrong to shoot him once it came to that. Moral blacks and whites don’t fit that kind of situation very well. Things get complicated fast.

But c’mon, that’s once. How many times does the guy get to show up in the news before I get to say he’s creating his own problems?

  8. Kentucky says:

Well, from what we know here, he was attacked by a guy with whom he had prior issues. In THIS INSTANCE it appears he’s the victim . . . unless you subscribe to the “he wuz askin; for it” defense.

He’s a lightning rod, albeit perhaps of his own manufacture.

  9. Jake says:

The guy who shot at him is the same guy who last year tried to claim that Zimmerman pointed a gun at him, but refused to press charges. He also appears to have a history of minor crimes (multiple dui’s, drug possession, probation violations, etc.).

He’s also calling this incident self-defense by claiming, once again, that Zimmerman was pointing a gun at him… seen while driving and through Zimmerman’s heavily tinted windows. Plus, if Zimmerman’s account has any truth to it, then he would have been perfectly justified in brandishing at the guy.

Other than the previous incident with this guy, and his horrible luck with girlfriends, I think his only issues have been a couple of speeding tickets.

  10. wibble says:

The medias portrayal of Zimmerman has been appalling from the off. It has all been about race. They tried the same stunt with Hands up don’t shoot Officer Brown but were caught cold in the lies. They have tried the same stunt in Baltimore and almost every white on black shootingnin between.
They have an agenda and will pursue it.
George may not be a nice person, he may not be the sharpest tool in the box but that does not mean he is not allowed to defend himself.
As Gonewith the wind points out had there been one solid fact in all the MSMs narrative of the stories they have published he would have been charged. George is their whipping boy, the case did not follow the agenda they set out and the press were made to look like a bunch of fools. Now they cross their fingers and print anything they think they can get away with in the hope somebody will shoot him and they can See we told you so!

  11. Paul Bonneau says:

“How many times does the guy get to show up in the news before I get to say he’s creating his own problems?”

Joel, you are giving far too much credence to the impartiality of the press. I think it much more likely they are trying anything to get him. It doesn’t even matter if they make shit up, just that his name yet again gets printed in unsavory circumstances; that’s all they are going for. The point is to make gun owners look bad.

  12. gojuplyr says:

The prior incident was initiated by the guy who shot at GZ. GZ still has a bounty on his head. Funny how he media doesn’t find space to mention that. This reporting hack job would be like saying JFK was involved in an assassination plot.
The GZ shooter has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies. You can read the details at the Legal Insurrection blog.
