I went to town this afternoon to see if the local Carquest carries generic OBD II scan tools (they don’t) and right next door the drug store had a sign advertising .22 by the brick.
And I was just in time. I kid you not, I stood in line for it.

Paid far too much (and I need to make it up in the budget) for ammo I would have sneered at before the Age of Obama, but at least there was some for sale. First I’ve seen over a counter in this whole county in years.

Years ago, I walked into a Sam’s Club in a state-not-where-I-resided and they had a pallet of 22 stacked four feet high. For sale just like it was a normal everyday item. I think I bought 1000 rounds and acted like I was sneaking contraband across the border. I’m gonna go start drinking now.
I still haven’t gotten over the fact that a 500-round brick can no longer be had for $9.95 almost anywhere.
This has gone beyond stupid. Many moons ago, on merest whim, I bought a couple cartons of .22 even though I hesitated because it was $125-ish for 5000 rounds. I’m very glad I did. Turns out it may have been the best buy I made on ammo.
OTOH, on the bright-side-under-the-circumstances, when I sold my guns, the dealer offered to buy any spare ammo I had left. I got nearly as much for that as the guns. On .22LR alone, I got around 11x what I’d paid originally.
I hear you Joel, even up here in the Great White North ammo prices are getting stupid. Last week I went to the range and used some .22. When I went to replace it I found that the cost had almost doubled from my last purchase. I am thinking gone are the days of $15.00 500 .22 bricks. It’s too bad that .22 cannot be reloaded easily.
