This kind of pisses me off. I didn’t do very much on-line yesterday at all. Very little surfing for content. No videos. One – one! – pic download for the blog. Okay, three or four counting the doormats. And yet somehow, according to Verizon Mathtm, I’ve used up more than 5% of my bandwidth allowance. Doing what?
Tablet’s not the culprit here. Wi-fi’s turned off, and anyway the tablet wasn’t even on yesterday.
I feel like a boy getting punished for something his stepsister did. All together now, sing it with me: I’M A VICTIM!!
Also, I must hurry and post this because I have to go to town and (erg) buy a tire. A used tire, hopefully, and not at all pricey. If such things still exist. Jeep needs an inflatable spare so I can remove the one that’s leaking around an old plug. I could just take that one in for patching, but then I’d need to either go a week without the Jeep or learn to drive on three wheels.
Grumble.

Is your anti virus up to date on your personal confuser and tablet? Have you run your AV lately? Have you turned off all auto updates for the personal confuser and tablet? Have you password protected the Verizon wifi thingamajig from accidental area freeloaders? If you have answered no to any of these that could be the issue. Failing this you may want to call and scream, er, chat with a CSR about the issue. One thing they will ask you about the above mentioned items so be ready. The issue could be a faulty Verizon wifi thingamajig, it is not unknown for these things to be faulty right out of the box.
Almost forgot one thing. I don’t know why it is but if your Verizon wifi thingamajig works by using the local cell network, for whatever reason this will take up some serious data usage. I found that out while trying to download some stuff to my tablet while using my cell phone as a wifi hot spot. Needless to say when the bill came in I was not impressed.
This is most likely a dumb techtard question, but does our viewing/commenting add to the useage? When any of us go to the blog, are we somehow activating something?
Email downloads? Attachments?
Coloradohermit, you were right, it sounded dumb… 🙂
That’s not what’s causing the problem. ..
Thanks for the confirmation Goober. 😉
Are you using a bandwidth usage monitor? When I was on satellite provided internet access I used a program that reported all of my usage by real time, hourly, daily, weekly and monthly. I have not used a satellite provider since 2010 and do not remember what the name of that program. But there are several out there today that will monitor all your useage regardless of provider.
I really, really do not miss having to use bandwidth inhibited internet at all.
I did quite a bit of research on using Verizon, especially with LTE Internet (Installed). That product places an antenna on your structure and a box to connect your devices to, similar to a mifi, but larger. It looked like it would cover our needs, but then…
I read several stories of how Verizon was billing for bandwidth that had never happened. Several people had unplugged fully from the box and were still showing bandwidth. The likely culprit is when the box switches to another cell tower for better signal, and the teardown/setup of the connection is counted as bandwidth used. If you have marginal signal, the box is constantly trying to set up a connection, thereby incurring charges.
Verizon says they are working on it. In the meantime, “you might want to try somebody else”. Sure. The only reason I’m talking to Verizon is because there isn’t anybody else.
