Introducing Passionate Gun Love Magazine!

So this morning – just so you wouldn’t have to – I read a Mother Jones article long-form advertisement for Mothers Demand Attention. I dunno why – it was six in the morning and I was already bored, I guess.

Anyway, it got me to thinking about how little the gun control debate has really changed over the decades. The best (that is, the most potentially persuasive) arguments don’t involve ridicule, but the most memorable ones always do. And by that criterion the most memorable anti-gun polemic I ever saw was in the pages of Mad Magazine back when I was a teenager. I disagreed with the message of the lengthy piece intensely, but laughed like a loon from page to page and kept the magazine for years. It was brilliant!

This morning, halfway through the boring paean to Shannon Watts, I got to thinking about that old issue of Mad and wondered if I could find it. And sonuvagun (sic) – Youtube to the rescue!

Private to ML: Go ahead and watch it, there’s no audio.

This came out in late 1969 or early 1970, and to this day I can’t clean a gun without chuckling over the headline “I cleaned an unloaded gun – and lived! Story of a once-in-a-lifetime miracle.”

  1. Oh, my goodness. Talk about overkill (forgive the pun). The strange thing is that people continue to spout such nonsense, and simply won’t even admit that none of that happens.

I love my guns, but I do not kiss them. Hoppes smells good, but it tastes terrible. 🙂

ML: re Hoppes, which is why I don’t clean my precious at the dinner table anymore. Also, Loc-tite is most unpalatable.

I deleted my rant about their (fictional) stance against hunting. My sense of humor needs refreshing… Sigh.
