I can smell it coming…

You can blame the shooting du jour on any number of single issues, as you like. The idiocy of gun-free zones. The legacy of chattel slavery and Reconstruction. Rednecks. Video games. The use of lead in moonshine stills. Stephen King novels. The usual suspects, of course, have chosen swift and loud to blame it on guns, and on my (Mine! Personally!) ‘proudly closed mind*’ on the subject of giving up my weapons, as if rendering the innocent more helpless has ever saved a single innocent life. Ever. Even once in all human history.

Any second now I’m going to hear the phrase I always hear in rebuttal, the phrase I hate almost as much as “common-sense gun control.” The inevitable expression I so hate is (deep breath) “Second Amendment Rights.” I hate that phrase. There’s no such thing.

And I started getting cranked up to rant about how there’s no such thing as “Second Amendment Rights,” and then decided screw it, it’s too hot. Anyway, I already did. So go read it there if you care.

It’s the one visible sign that tells an adult from an infant. Weapons.

*Oh, and Mr. King? Fuck you and the limousine you rode in on. You have no room to talk, Mr. “I need mine more than you need yours.” Seriously, just shut up and go write a novel. I have to take this bullshit from Obama, because he’s potentially dangerous. I don’t have to take it from you. But even for him, I Will Not Disarm. End of compromise negotiation. Thanks for playing.

    That is a great quote.

Adults are aware that they are responsible for their own fate, and provide for their defense accordingly. Infants are both not capable of that understanding, or in dealing with that reality, which is why they are not allowed out in the big scary world on their own.

Looks like some of them have gained age, but not maturity.
