The roads wind around following the terrain and make no logical sense. It’s easy to lose your way and not be able to find the way back toward pavement. So a couple of times I have led people out.
I’ve never treated any of them like this…

…which is why I doubt the word of the vice president of the United States who actually claimed the Iranian action was a rescue.
“When you have a problem with the boat, (do) you apologize the boat had a problem? No,” Biden said in an interview with “CBS This Morning” on Wednesday. “And there was no looking for any apology. This was just standard nautical practice.”
The vice president explained that the “the Iranians picked up both boats — as we have picked up Iranian boats that needed to be rescued.” Iranian officials then “realized they were there in distress and said they would release them, and released them — like ordinary nations would do.”
Of course standard procedure for this administration is that when you want to float a really exceptionally stupid trial balloon, you put it in Joe Biden’s mouth. Still – never mind what the Iranians did. Yes it was hostile and idiotic, but how is that new? They’ve made no secret about being in a pissing contest with the Great Satan since the Carter administration. What the hell does this clumsy disinformation say about our own government? I thought the U.S. was supposed to be the grown-up in the gulf.

Given the history, I expect it will eventually come out (with much less press coverage) that the US boat was sent to sail around in Iranian waters specifically to provoke them. That’s what happened when Iran captured a British boat a few years ago.
Of course, they might also have been there doing something in support of one of the terrorist groups that the Evil Empire backs in Iran.
The official story (that one boat broke down and then both boats drifted into Iranian waters) doesn’t hold water (pun intended). It’s way too easy for one small boat to tow another, so no reason for drifting. Also, surely they had radios, or even telephones. So how did we “lose contact” with them?
Therefore, there is more to this story than we have been trusted to know.
My private theory: Our boats were deliberately in Iranian waters on some sort of mission, and the Iranians somehow got the drop on them. Our official story is a polite face-saving fiction, and both sides know it. Iran doesn’t want a big incident right now because we are about to drop sanctions which will put $ billions in their treasury, so it was in their best interest to pretend to believe the US cover story.
Well said.
