Landlady’s house is rather small. It’s got a nice snug living room, a nice snug dining room, a nice snug kitchen, a single bedroom and a monster closet.
In the living room there are (were) two 4X6 rugs AND a ten-foot runner in the “hall.” Here’s one of the rugs…
At the time I took that picture my ass was all the way against the farthest kitchen counter while I tried to get the whole rug in the shot.
Once in a while it strikes me that the Secret Lair is, after all, rather smaller than most. 🙂
But I love it.
Nice rug! I want a new, bigger one for my kitchen, but they are all too expensive and the old rags still do the job. But one of these days…. 🙂

Is there a non-skid backing on that rug? Or is there another injury in your {near) future?
Mark Matis sees the problem with that rug on that tile floor. The tiles already are about as slick as an air hockey table with the power on: The rug makes it far worse, it turns out. Maybe some big lengths of double-sided sticky tape, I dunno, but it’s a little scary the way it is.
There are anti-skid rug mats sold either as cut sizes or in a large mat that you cut to fit, but their quality and usefulness vary by product and they aren’t 100%. It’s easy to get a product that doesn’t work very well But their efficacy may depend on the angle your foot hits them. There’s double sided carpet tape too. Maybe you can find some other use for the rug(s)? before you go crashing to the floor.
Small is easier to heat / cool / keep clean and keeps property taxes more reasonable. Many of my coworkers bought 2600 sq. ft. homes, only for kids to leave the residence and now rattle around in homes too big for two people. Upkeep / furnishings – bah !
With a wood floor, lots of rugs, and Giant Puppy, I use a product that looks like duct tape, but is a non-skid tape you put on the back of the rug to prevent skipping. But even with that, Grizz can shoot a 5×8 rugs clear across the house. Sorry, but the roll I have has no info on it. You might want to bring out some roofing nails.
Shame about the slick. That rug would certainly mitigate those cold tiles.
Way back in the misty eons, my grandmother used to sew those old-style rubber jar sealing rings to the back of throw rugs on her hardwood floors Big help.
When we first moved in to our home my wife wanted to put carpet over wood floor. After the first fall I prevailed and it was gone.
