So a few days ago the Jeep got a hard miss overnight. Suddenly it only had five cylinders.
I figured the problem probably had something to do with the fact that the spark plugs were hand-carved by Karl Benz. Figures: I just get a few bucks ahead and the Jeep needs a money infusion, right?
Finally got the plugs – and a new air filter while I was at it. Raised the hood. Looked the engine over. Noticed the big rat’s nest on top of the intake manifold. Cleaned the nest OFF the intake manifold.
Discovered the reason for the miss…
*&^%! rats.
Naturally he chewed the harness off so close to the connector there’s probably no way to solder new wire on. Where the hell am I supposed to scrounge a new injector harness?

One time when I was out on an overnight wheeling trip I caught a mongoose inside the cab…which was kinda funny even though it shat on the floorboard. But that just fucking sucks dude.
Jeep: Just Empty Every Pocket
I’ll look in my junk box. If I have one(it’s possible) I’ll overnight it to shewhowon’tbelistedbyname if she may be there or send it slower if you can wait. What year is the jeep, in case I don’t have one and have to scrounge, beg, borrow or steal(very likely)? I’m assuming 4.0?
If Buck can come through for ya, that would be great.
If not, I am assuming you have some spare time on your hands here, you may be able to figure out the locking mechanism that holds the actual metal connectors in the plastic plug, get those out and VERY CAREFULLY, with something like a stiff needle, pry open the crimp and strip the ends of the wires and then re crimp them.
I have had to do that more than once and you have to be very patient.
Use a magnifying glass if ya have to to see the locking mechanism, it’s usually some kind of plastic lever you have to pry back and then the connector pulls right out.
It’s a last ditch thing though.
Ouch! Thankfully, around here, the packrats generally just eat the spark plug wires. Those are easy to keep on hand and replace. Good luck!
Buck, It’s a 2001 Wrangler 4.0L. The local junkyard was no help, to my mild surprise.
Philip, I’d come to the same conclusion. I remember having tried that before but don’t recall if I succeeded. I’d call it Plan D. Bosch injectors are so ubiquitous I can’t believe I won’t be able to scrounge another pigtail somewhere.
I think careful soldering would be a fine temporary fix, but maybe it’s worse than it looks in the picture.
You can buy the plug w/ a short pigtail online if necessary, you just need to figure out which style connector it is. I have a 2001 Cherokee 4.0 and I’m preeetty sure they’re EV6 connectors, but since I haven’t gotten around to replacing my injector wiring yet I don’t know for sure. If your injector plugs aged anything like mine, you’ll probably break it trying to disconnect it from the injector anyway.
… Looks like the 2000+ Jeeps should have EV6 connectors, but check that visually. Anyway there are several online shops that sell them for $4 to $5, you just need to find one that won’t charge $10+ flat rate shipping for a single plug.
Had a squirrel that lived in the cab of my truck for the better part of a year. He didn’t chew the wiring and cleaned up the crumbs from my meals so I let him be. He moved out the morning I hit the two deer.
