Well, I’m certain California will be able to make it work.
Finland is killing its world-famous basic income experiment
Hey! D’you know what you get when you subsidize sloth? More sloth! I know, right? Who could possibly have predicted that?
Claims of “Yeah, but Finland just didn’t do it big enough” in 3…2…1…

Like true communism, (to each according to his needs, from each according to his abilities) the main problem is human nature.
While I tend to agree with you about basic income, I can’t find any article that actually discusses results. Most just refers to public sentiment about the experiment changing. Which is a great reason not to get into it in the first place, but if they’re going to go to all the trouble it’d be nice to get some data out of it. Something that people can point to and say “look, they stopped because it didn’t work.
There’s a lot of misinformation about the Finnish experiment going around. This stems from the idea that the test was scrapped, it wasn’t. The Finnish Government rejected a proposal to extent the experiment. The Universal Basic Income test is still ongoing and will be until the test period closes at the end of December. So, as of this moment the Finns don’t know if it worked or failed and will not know until numbers are crunched. The Finnish government plans to wait for the results from this initial trial before making any decisions about a wider roll-out of the initiative. The results from the trial will not be available until the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2020.
We are doing the big min wage increase up here in Canada as well. I’ve been all over the world. They have set wages in Norway, if you finish school with a certain trade your paid X amount of dollars. But a hot dog and French fries costs $30 bucks and $10 beers. So nobody is “poor” but nobody has any savings either. It’s all relative. I like my $2 hot dogs at Costco.
