It’s 9 ayem and I just got my panels cleared off, not that there’s any sun or even a lot of light. There was a solid 5″ of snow on the laundry table at sort-of daybreak and still snowing, just barely cold enough to keep it solid which means it’s wet and heavy. Pulled down the camo netting over the chicken yard. Refused to be swept, and for maybe the second time in nine years I wished I’d invested in a snow shovel.
The temp rose two degrees and the solar panels became absurdly easy to clean off, for all the good it’ll do. There’s basically no horizon, it’s grayish-white on whitish-gray.
In short, it’s a typical winter day in Michigan. Not so typical for the high desert. But – having finished huffing and puffing my way to Landlady’s through the thick snow to walk the dogs and look in on her chickens, I’m now sitting here in shirtsleeves in my sinfully warm cabin. It’s 75 degrees in here and the fire isn’t even burning at the moment, I let it burn down because it’s too warm.
Hope you all are doing well. Now I shall shut down the ‘tricity, brew myself a cup of something warm, and read a book for a while.

Enjoy! It’s 40 degrees outside now at 9:15 AM, and a healthy 66 in the office here. But cold weather is coming in a day or so, and maybe some actual snow, so I’ve got to empty the ashes from the wood stove and do a few chores outside to finish battening down the hatches for whenever winter actually comes. I’d much rather read a book! LOL Maybe later this afternoon. Right after I get the new batch of sourdough bread rising… almost forgot!!
Enjoy your snug lair. We can entertain ourselves until Mother nature gets around to gifting you a fresh batch of photons.
I was wondering where the snow and cold went. Well now that I know I’m sorry for your discomfort. Up here North of disorder the temp was around the low sixties. Hell there are still some golf courses open around here. I guess that I should take the fall for all this, I put my snow tires on a couple of weeks early. Sorry… :^)
ML, you are going to get our snow over there. We had a nice falling of tiny ice a couple of days ago, cold temps, and sun. The whole forest was filled with tiny little prisms. If any of you have seen Monet’s “The Magpie” in person, you will have seen the tiny prisms he made in the snow. When I saw that painting in person, I was moved to tears at his genius.
Wood stove on lower level is keeping the house warm. Joel, so glad to hear that you are there in your snug cabin, blissfully warm. Congratulations! It has been a long road to today for you, and you have earned this comfort. May I say Very Well Done! ?
Merry Christmas everyone.
I’m glad you are all so thermally happy. I’m about to freeze to death. It’s only 23 down here in Florida right now:

You are all talking degrees Celsius, of course?

Mark Matis: Oh, be quiet. 🙂
Yes, I’m in Wisconsin, how could you tell?
