Care packages!

Landlady came up last evening, and greeted me this morning with many packages. Some of it was actually stuff I had bought…

I’ve been a little more financially prosperous lately than in past years, and as my surplus BDUs wear out I’m cycling in some rather more normal-looking work clothes. So I got a pair of Dickies trous – the second new pair of britches I’ve bought in over ten years – and a couple of shirts.

But there were still gifts…

Check this out. Y’know, twenty years ago a guy in my position would be literally living in a shack, shooting cottontails and making frybread. Connectivity? Electricity? Forget it. Even running water would be out of the question, because without off-grid electricity there’s no point drilling a 250-foot well. It’s true we got gypped out of our flying cars, but every now and then the future gives me a slap and reminds me I’m living in it. See that little thing? Eight gigs of non-volatile data storage, and cheap enough to dump into an envelope and send away as a gift. And the contents? Seven movies I’ve never seen before. Well…okay, I’ve seen one but it was a long time ago and I really liked it. That’s just cool.

My older brother has gotten into the habit of sending me frequent care packages of goodies, and he’s welcome to continue doing so. Spam, cookies, books, that sort of thing. Always welcome.

He also sent chemical protection gear. Goggles, heavy gloves, and a rubber lab apron. Probably a good time for it, since I’m breaking in some new clothes. I was a bit heartbroken when I got acid holes in my good canvas coat.

And Landlady came through for me as well…

Meat! All hail Costco! Not shown is ten pounds of pork roast, already cut to size and frozen. Granted I paid for this, she still did the shopping and delivered all this stuff. So all hail Landlady.

Thanks to all!

Very eclectic assortment of fun stuff. You have the coolest friends. Anything new and exciting that you’ll test and report on?

  2. Zelda says:

    Yes.
Perhaps also a full head and face coverage? Tall boots? Size?
    Neutralizer?
At least one bucket – to fill with water – and/or a hose. Fire extinguisher.
