When I was a kid you showed up, same as always, and cringed through a couple of lame presentations from other kids’ dads who wanted to tell you all about what they did for a living. Like you cared.
Here we have a cop who apparently decided to demonstrate what he considered one of the real benefits of his job.
“Defendant Webb responded by pointing his Taser at R.D. and saying, ‘Let me show you what happens to people who do not listen to the police.’”
He then proceeded to show the kids exactly what happens.
I linked three news items above, because I had to go through three before I found any evidence that the cop was “disciplined” at all for this…
Following the May 4. incident, Webb, who claims he accidentally discharged the Taser, was given only a three day suspension.
So, no. Benefits, indeed! I’m sure half the kids there determined on the spot that they wanted to be cops when they grew up.
The other half may have drawn other conclusions.
What I’d like to know is why in hell this cretin wasn’t beaten within an inch of his life by the adults standing around… Perhaps there were no real, actual adults present? Where the hell was this kid’s mother anyway? Somebody who did that to one of my young sons would not be able to walk afterwards… unless he shot me dead.
I’d think that any REAL man (or woman) who witnessed that would feel some obligation to deal with such a monster… but maybe not these days. Too much Ritalin – and learned helplessness, I guess.
