I figured it was just because you’re control freaks and enjoy pushing people around. But if you’re saving the world, by all means carry on.
Agri-terrorism. No, seriously. Their word, not mine.
The commissioners were equally flabbergasted by the change of events, as well as with how the agriculture department handled the investigation — sending a high-ranking official and lawyers to a meeting with the library.
Darr explained that the Seed Act primarily focuses on the selling of seeds — which the library was not doing — but there is also a concern about seeds that may be mislabeled (purposefully or accidentally), the growth of invasive plant species, cross-pollination and poisonous plants.
The department told the library it could not have the seed library unless its staff tested each seed packet for germination and other information. Darr said that was clearly not something staff could handle.
If you thought you were planting melons and then some sort of bean sprouted, why, imagine the horror. The effect on your children! Your neighbor’s children! The fate of the republic is in your hands, citizen! Please! Let us do our jobs!

Freeze! Drop the packet of seeds and assume the position, you dirtbag! WTF is wrong with these taxpayer-funded people? “Citizens! Commit an act of rebellion! Plant some flowers today!” I’m going to the local library shortly to renew two books about rifles. I will check if the seeds are still there.
Can’t stop the signal.
(Joel’s gardening efforts notwithstanding)
From an anthropological view – humans have a deep and long relationship with plants. It’s in the air we breathe and every fiber of our selves. This hardly needs pointed out to any thinking person. What gets me is to look at this relationship and think of how this nimrod behavior would impact that same relationship – talk about a chilling effect! Why would anyone want a world so regulated and impoverished? Nature – brought to you by Monsanto and a herd of lawyers.
They may not be able to stop the signal – but there’ll be hell to pay until they tire out or desist.
Agri-Terrorism – now that’s a mote and beam matter if I ever saw one!
Our library’s seed sharing program is still operating and I don’t think the library is worried about anti-american seeds sneaking in. When I told the library worker about PA shutting down the seed program, she smiled and said “How nice.” Not sure if that’s a relief or worrisome…
