Death in the Powershed

Day got so busy, and I came home so tuckered out, that it only just now occurred to me that the one chore I forgot to do is to check the trap I set in the powershed. Yesterday it was ignored: Maybe my unwelcome boarder was pissed about what I did to his laboriously-built nest.

But sometime today the peanut butter worked its charm. Scratch one big, sleek packrat.

Of course as I was just discussing with Neighbor J this morning, that only creates an opening for somebody else.

We have tried peanut butter for our pack rat, or rats but they are too smart for the trap. We have destroyed the nest over and over. So, out of desperation, I got some instant mashed potatoes with a bowl of water nearby and hope the imploded themselves. I have not heard any gnawing all day, so tomorrow I will crawl under the house and look see. Glad you had luck in getting your critters.

Emily mix plaster of paris in with the potato if it doesn’t work.

I just remembered that mothballs make a pretty universal critter repellent. They also repel humans, but that’s OK because you don’t happen to live in your power shed. They are cheap and worth a try.
