Dharma went home.

Hours ago.
100_3795Ghost is still recovering.

He loves it when Mom comes for a weekend. He loves it so much he’ll even put up with Dharma the Really Obnoxiously Hyperactive Pup for the chance to spend the night at her house. But afterward, he needs a moment. Or ten.

I know two dogs who can relate. I take care of them for a couple weeks every winter and this year they had an in-law visiting. A loud, aggressive and boundlessly energetic chihuahua / some fuzzball mix. They seemed quite relieved when she was out and they were in and vice versa. I felt the same.

Also, I’ve got a little patch of ground to call my own now and am gathering materials for a secret lair. That was the plan before I started reading TUAK but I don’t know if I would have had the balls to actually do it had you not been sharing your day-to-day adventures with us. Thanks Joel.

Cool! Go for it. Look on the bright side: The very worst that can happen is utter devastating failure er, that is, what I meant to say is that you can never really fail. You can screw up in really expensive and embarrassing ways, I do that all the time. But that only means you’re not done yet, it’s not as though there’s some final failing grade. Unless you’re already really happy and fulfilled where you are, almost nothing that can happen is as bad as never having tried*.

*Don’t you hate asterisks? The above assumes, of course, that you either have no family or that your family is firmly on board with the plan. Otherwise lots of things can be worse, and I wish you good luck.

Thanks! Never got hitched or had kids so free and clear there. I already screw up in expensive and embarrassing ways, it will just be in different ways. “An interesting learning experience” you once described that life as.

Plus I’m not deluded enough to think an inexpensive solar electric system more powerful than to keep the lights on is viable this far north and in the woods. That alone should keep me from pissing away a pile of cash.
