Dirty dawg…

One of Little Bear’s new favorite places is the Lair’s rear entranceway, where he’s relatively safe from being tripped over in the dark.

Little Bear’s a gigantic dustmop of a dog who’s never had a bath in his life.

And I’m afraid it shows.

What’s left of the wall beside his original bed is far worse, of course. But here it really shows.

I know that you can’t do it right there in front of the door, but BB needs either a bed with sides or more frequent trips to the doggy spa. (Yes, I’m aware that the spa trips won’t happen.) 😉

  2. Joel says:

🙂 There’s no room for a bed with sides, so I may just paint that part of the wall a darker color.

Or tile in that space so you can wash it down. Not worried about the dirt, but the oil accumulation from his coat. Glad you’re better.

Never got the object of wainscot, but now I see a utility.

And probably good that our stomachs are discriminating (a little) even if we are sometimes less so.

Good to hear you are in game to become an old codger!

  5. John says:

    …Way on down the road.

  6. Zelda says:

A scrap piece of vinyl flooring stapled or nailed to the wall would be quicker and cheaper than tile and would wash.

And that’s why we love them! Two old dogs came to my life this year. Everything a beagle is not. They shed pretty fierce. Free carpeting!

I wonder if a Mr Clean Magic Eraser sponge would take that dirt off. Might even have them at the local town’s dollar store.

  9. Zelda says:

Cokoradohermit, I use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponge on the most difficult and disgusting grunge areas on different types of surfaces and it works every time, even when nothing else has. Drawback for me is that they don’t last very long – maybe I scrub too hard – so it’s much more of an expense than regular cleaners and they generate more waste materials.

Tile is a good idea but takes time and effort. Go get one or two 2×4′ sheets of plexiglass or other rigid plastic, drill and screw it to the wall studs after washing that spot and you are done. Easy to wipe down thereafter. Heck, you could put up scrap galvanized roofing as wainscoting and call it a day, will add to the country charm.

It’s nice to see a post like this after the previous two, it means you are on the mend and that’s a good thing. :^)

Mr. Clean magic eraser. Problem solved.

  13. K says:

Line the wall with newspaper. Maybe even the stockmarket section, so he can pick a few winning stocks next year!

  14. Ruth says:

I like the plexi idea personally. I have to add that bathing would only made a difference if it was done on a regular basis. My dogs only get a bath a couple times a year unless they manage to roll in something stinky, and my big dog’s favorite nap spot looks just about like that (or worse actually, cause the walls here are cream, something I plan to fix…..).

I try to give my little border collie a bath every month or so. She sleeps at the foot of my bed on a faux wool blanket and I was just noticing today how filthy that thing is.
