Every little bit helps.

Getting ready for winter here. In addition to the money for getting my saw chains sharpened and/or replaced, yesterday’s marathon wood-splitting gig scored me an improved chopping block. It’s not perfect, but should do for a while. It’s the rootstock of an unusually meaty juniper. The base was so irregular I needed to bury it in the ground, which should lend some stability considering it’s rather small.

My uncle has used a lawn tractor tire with good effect as well, helps keep the split wood from flying away. Just lay empty tire on its side, insert billet and let ‘er rip!

  2. Firewood! ‘Tis the season. I’ve been meaning to get out there and add to the mountain of wood I’ve accumulated. Now I’m inspired. Thanks.
