Still selling stuff off to finance their upcoming move, J&H sold their 40-foot CONEX container H used for hay storage.
I wish they’d told me they were doing that ahead of time, because then D and I wouldn’t have stacked so many stock fence sections against it. J was out of state, H is six months pregnant, and D was doing something else so that left me to remediate the situation. Lots of back-and-forth today, carrying or (mostly) dragging heavy objects. Then of course it had to be emptied of its hay: Fortunately by the time I got to that a couple of strong young cowboys came by with a flatbed and a backhoe, so I let them do most of that. She’s been letting the horses eat it nearly empty, so there were only six or eight bales to move.
Then all the packrat nests and mummified rabbits needed to be raked up, and a bunch of assorted junk loaded in the Jeep trailer and dumped in their dumpster, and some fence wire rolled, and…
Well, I put in a pretty good day’s work. Of course all that was after Monday shit-shoveling.
All this activity gave me opportunity to see the difference made by those gelsocks somebody gave me several months ago.
* I wore one day before yesterday, when D and I tore down and stacked the stock fences. I wasn’t in pain that evening.
* Yesterday there was a lot of back and forth, but no heavy lifting. I didn’t wear a gelsock, and by evening I was in something closely akin to agony.
* Today I did a lot of back and forth with heavy lifting, wearing a gelsock, and I’m not in any special pain.
Those things are great! I’ve been wearing the same prosthetic leg for going on 20 years and with repairs and upgrades it’s actually in pretty good shape, but it doesn’t exactly fit perfectly anymore. These gelsocks cover a multitude of sins, fit-wise. But I’ve only got five and they’re not the most durable things. I need to find more without delay, because I’d wear them every day if I could.
ETA, responding to comments: Well, I confess I hoped somebody would ask. 🙂
They’re Comfortgel socks from a company called Comfort Products, for below-knee (BK) amputations. Five-ply, nine inches of gel, 12 inches overall.
Dunno who sent them, but if he or she (hell, I don’t even think those are the only options anymore) is a regular reader, you’ll probably have them inbound soon. If not, & you can discern a maker’s mark on them, put it out. You’ll get them.
If size is a thing, don’t forget that.
From what I can find based on the single picture you posted of one, looks like it might be the Angel Gel Sock from Comfort Products. Woould greatly appreciate a measurement of the sock & gel. Looks like Reg is 12″ of sock and 9″ of gel, but they have a few other sizes as well. I’m willing to say that once you let us know what the size is, you’ll have more inbound shortly.
Joel, check your email when you get a chance. Found the exact ones, but need a bit more info.
I amended the post with that information. I’ll bet they’re pricey, though.
Looks like ol’ Gulchendiggensmoothen got upgraded at some point. What is that, a CAT with a fully enclosed cab? Probably the first air conditioning you’ve felt in years!
Damnit, not anonymous. That last post was me.
Yeah, I wish. That’s a brand-new $120,000 Cat, and the guy in the driver’s seat is definitely not me.
